Amnesty
There is an article out there that is sparking a bit of a “movement” talking about granting amnesty for things done and said during COVID.
If you were, like many of us, a grumpy and crabby son of a bitch during COVID and you pissed off some of your friends and family, then sure. Worse, if you fell into depression or maybe drank too much, said some things you shouldn’t have, but you’re getting better, then sure. I’ll give you a pass. I think any reasonable person would grant that.
If you’re the United States Government, a state government, an elected government official, an appointed government official…too bad, so sad…no amnesty for you. None. Not a chance. Especially if you claimed to be one of the “adults in the room”.
If you were one of the assholes running the city streets, lighting shit on fire, ransacking businesses…no amnesty for you. If you were part of the media defending ANY of the above…you don’t get a pass. NO WAY. If you were playing Social Media police and reporting people for posting things you didn’t agree with…nope.
This is the biggest attempt at “Ooops, my bad,” I’ve ever seen. And it is going to grow. Everyone in a position of power that made decisions, that took away people’s rights, or defended those that did, you aren’t getting shit from me. No amnesty here. You don’t get to take it back. You did it…you get to OWN it.
Mark my words, this is going to get bigger. Every mayor, senator, representative, health official, media personality is going to jump on this. They are going to ask for amnesty. They aren’t even going to apologize, they are just going to ask us all to give them a pass. There will be no admission of fault or guilt, just a wink and a nod hoping we will forgive and, more importantly, forget.
No way. I am beginning to think this was the plan all along. I coincides all too well with the efforts to give criminals a pass, bail reform, police reform, immigration reform, etc. All the efforts to just let people go when they break the law is potentially an attempt to change our mindset, to be all too forgiving. If we can be convinced to turn the other cheek on violent criminals, why wouldn’t we do the same for politicians and other officials? Something to think about.
One thing is for sure, you’ll be getting no COVID Amnesty from me. Sorry Charlie.
