Anti-Semite in Congress
You cannot separate Israel from the Jewish Faith. Like few other countries on Earth, there is an inherent link between a government and a religion. Israel is one of the greatest allies the United States has in the world, let alone the middle east.
Since it’s establishment in 1948, recognized by both President Eisenhower and Joseph Stalin as the leaders of the two existing Superpowers of the day, Israel has been in a constant state of conflict with Palestine and the surrounding Arab nations. Through the evolution of the region, including numerous changes in the borders and names of nations, Israel has been steadfast in their loyalty to the United States as an ally.
I do not claim to be an expert in the history of the Jewish people, the Jewish faith, or the history of the region. I do know that cases could be made on both sides as to why Israel should or should not exist. As a nation, from it’s inception, America has backed Israel. That is our position.
In the past week, there has been an attempt by a sitting member of the House of Representatives to host an anti-Israel gathering inside the halls of the Capital building. Representative Rashida Tlaib (D), representing a district in the state of Michigan, was organizing the gathering of nine separate organizations that are defiantly anti-Israel. They are, in fact, not just anti-Israel but anti-Semitic as well. They are not only protesting the existence of Israel but are encouraging anti-Semitic sentiment as well. By doing it in the halls of Congress, which she still plans to do by hosting it in a Senate side chamber, Representative Tlaib is masking her bigotry by making it political.
This has nothing to do with politics. If it did, she would be laughed at for being so damn stupid. You don’t, as a representative of the US Government, openly speak out against a key ally. You don’t do it as an individual and you don’t do it in public. Period. The White House and the Department of State manage those things. Not some Representative whose district has less than a million people in it. And not one who doesn’t sit on a single committee that deals with foreign affairs.
Make no mistake people, this has little to do with anything except her being an anti-Semite. In a day when division is rife within our country, and almost every minority group is fighting to be heard, Representative Tlaib is regressing to the days of openly persecuting Jews. And this is no different than someone being openly racist, anti-LGBTQ, or any of the worst “anti” positions you can take in modern society. If she was hanging confederate flags in the Senate, the world would be on fire. If she was tearing down rainbow flags and using anti-gay slurs, she would be run out of office.
Somehow, after everything the Jewish people have been through, including centuries of persecution ALL OVER THE WORLD which peaked with the Holocaust, she is getting away with this. Honestly, if this isn’t hate speech, I don’t know what is. At least Speaker McCarthy had the sense to cancel the event when she planned to do it inside the House of Representatives.
But, where is the outcry from the other members of Congress? What about “The Squad” that so openly support each other on any stupid position one of them takes? Are they stepping up and supporting her? Doesn’t seem like it. Are they standing up and telling her she’s wrong? That doesn’t seem to be happening either. In this case, silence is consent. If you don’t openly disagree with this, then you are quietly agreeing. It is guilt through inaction. And they are all fucking guilty.
This isn’t a rookie Congresswoman speaking out of turn. This isn’t a political statement.
This is an Anti-Semite in Congress.
