Washington D.C. - Please Grow Up
I’ll be honest, I only watched maybe ten minutes and then some specific highlights of the State of the Union last night. I cannot stand the showbiz bullshit it has become.
It’s theater now. What is arguably the single most important night of the year for this country has become a joke. It is completely politicized, not matter who is giving the speech or which party they are from.
Whether it is white suits, Supreme Court Justices not attending, ridiculously long standing ovations, or key American citizens planted in the crowd like props, the whole thing has turned into a production that could be outdone by a decent high school drama program. It’s embarrassing.
And it is getting worse. The booing, the comments being shouted from the gallery, and the overall conduct of everyone in that chamber was shameful. I really thought it couldn’t get less professional or more immature than former Speaker Pelosi and her antics when she tore up her copy of the speech a few years ago. I was wrong. Boy, was I ever wrong.
When you are an adult, elected into office to represent your community, and your conduct is so out of hand that you get “shushed” by another adult…you should be ashamed of yourself. Seriously, act like a fucking grown up and not a middle school kid.
Whether you like him or not. Whether you voted for him or not. Whether you agree with him or not. That is the President of the United States of America. Show him some fucking respect. Show the office some respect. The opposing party always gets their opportunity to rebut after the speech is complete. Save your stupid shit for later. In those chambers, act like your grandparents are in the room for crying out loud.
The people in that chamber, our elected officials, MUST know the world is watching. Our enemies are watching. Our allies are watching. And our politicians are in there acting like children. Our governmental representatives are seriously acting like a parliamentary body in some shit-ass third world country. I’ll say it again, it’s embarrassing. We should all be embarrassed.
The State of the Union, with the eyes of the world on us, is a night when we should be showing solidarity and strength. You are allowed to disagree. You are allowed to be dissatisfied. You are allowed to be enraged if you want. You are NOT allowed to act like a guy that smoked too much weed before he went in to see the latest Eddie Murphy movie and ruins it for everyone around him. Keep your mouth shut. Rebut later. Sit stoically through the speech. Respect the office.
Most of all…to all of Washington D.C. …Please Grow Up.
