Blaming the Gun is a LIE.

If you don’t like guns, that’s fine.  Don’t own them.  If you think that private citizens shouldn’t own guns, or certain types of guns, that’s fine.  You’re entitled to your opinion.  If you think the Second Amendment should be abolished, that’s fine.  Vote to have it changed.  That’s how our system works.

But, if you want to blame guns for everything that is wrong with our society, you’re just lying.  Period.  Admit you don’t like them.  Admit you want to change the Constitution.  But, if you hide behind tragedy to accomplish this, you’re just lying.  Lying to yourself and lying to the world.

When a plane crashes, there are unbelievable efforts to recover every single piece of evidence possible to determine the cause of the crash.  We dive into the ocean.  We recover black boxes.  We reconstruct the aircraft inside massive hangars.  People rebuild the flight path.  The pilot and flight crew are examined for their competency, work history, and issues within their personal lives.  We want to know WHY the crash happened.

We don’t say “Airplanes are bad.  Ban all airplanes.”  We don’t say “Only the government should own airplanes.”

When there is a vehicular crash, the police reconstruct everything to determine the cause of the crash.  Road conditions.  Speed.  Weather.  Mechanical condition of the vehicles involved.  Driver experience.  Licensing.  Driver impairment.  We want to know WHY the crash happened.

We don’t say “Cars are bad.  Ban all cars.”  We don’t say “Only the government should operate cars.”

I know, so many of you are going to say I am simplifying the issue.  In this case, you are right.  The issue is simple…people who want to ban guns are using tragedy as an excuse.  They are, in fact, lying.  It is that simple.

Instead of putting in the effort to determine WHY gun related deaths happen, they are blaming inanimate objects for the conduct of human beings.  It’s a lie.  Instead of holding people accountable, like the individual, the family, whoever provided the gun illegally (if that’s the case), or anyone else responsible, they blame the gun.  A LIE.  Instead of looking hard at the criminal justice system, the mental health system, the social welfare system, or hundreds of other contributing factors to gun violence, they blame the gun.  A LIE.  Instead of examining the disintegration of the family unit, the decreasing religious base, or the reliance on government programs instead of self-reliance, they blame the gun.  A LIE.

Seriously.  If you want guns banned, just say it out loud.  Have some courage.  Stop lying to yourself and those around you.  Stop hiding behind tragedy to try to ban guns.  It’s intellectually dishonest.  It’s lazy.  It’s a LIE.

I know that is a tough thing to do.  It takes courage most people don’t have.  I’ve seen it, more so in the civilian world than the military.  People are weak.  They don’t like confrontation with other people.  They don’t like to tell someone they failed, or they suck at their job, or something is their fault.  It is much easier to blame the conditions, or the faceless “them”, or some other bullshit excuse.  That’s a lie, too.

But, blaming the gun is a lie.  A LIE.  And that lie is the reason nothing changes.  The reason nothing gets better is when people blame the gun for the actions of a human being, they are LYING and changing the focus AWAY from the real problem to blame the gun.  It’s a LIE.

This post may cause me to lose some contacts.  It may cause me to lose some supporters.  It may cause me to lose some friends.  It’s OK.  If you are more attached to the lies you tell than to me, so be it.

Plain and simple, though…Blaming the Gun is a LIE.
