Real Warriors Over the Social Justice kind
In the early days of the war in Iraq, it was all over the media that some ground forces were conducting the invasion without the best equipment. Not everyone had the best body armor. Not everyone had armor plated vehicles. Not everyone had the most updated night vision. There were lots of gaps between top-tier technology and what was issued out to some of the units and individual servicemembers.
I remember it vividly because I had been to Afghanistan and back before the war in Iraq ever started. Before we left, we got new body armor. And a Camelback. And we got Wiley-X sunglasses while we were there. Other than that, we didn’t get outfitted with the newest, coolest shit before we left. We fought with what we had, which is what we trained with.
But when Iraq flared up and the nightly news started showing kids welding armor plate onto their vehicles, and moms and dads started complaining to their Congressmen about Sergeant Susie and Private Jimmy not having the same equipment as the Delta Force guys, there was a massive push to buy only the best equipment possible. DoD and Congress were trying to save face. Nothing was too good for Sergeant Susie and Private Jimmy. The most important thing was to make sure they had everything they needed to come home alive. Short-changing was not an option. Cost was not a concern.
Now, we have the White House and the Pentagon pushing to convert the entire ground fleet to electronic vehicles. The ENTIRE FLEET. The goal is to rid ourselves of those evil fossil fuel powered killing machines….to replace them with electronically driven killing machines. Yes, we are going to spend billions of dollars to be more environmentally friendly in how we kill people.
Read that last sentence again.
Keep in mind, the technology doesn’t currently exist to do this. Of course, we have the tech to use EVs across the military. We don’t have the technology to fight wars that way. And that’s the crux. Twenty years ago, moms and dads were pissed because their kids didn’t have the best of the best of the best. Right now, we are contemplating a massive shift in not just the equipment we have, but how we employ it to fight and win wars, in a time when we are staring both China and Russia in the face.
It is going to take decades to develop the technology we need to replace the capabilities we have. Decades. Then, it is going to take decades more to get close to any level of proficiency like what we have now. Do you think Sergeant Susie and Private Jimmy’s mommy and daddy are going to be happy we are saving Mother Earth if their kid gets killed because we switched to EVs before we were ready?
Not a chance.
Would you be OK sacrificing your kid because it made some environmentalist happy? I wouldn’t. Neither would you.
It is bad enough that DoD administrative policy, and even training, is being guided by the Social Justice Warrior Club. The idea that we are letting those same SJW idiots into the room when the discussion of how to best equip our military to WIN WARS is next-level stupid. But if we are going to sacrifice real warriors to make SJWs happy, that is insanity.
So, until they start building mobile charging stations that don’t run on fossil fuels to charge batteries, the Administration is going to have to back off the EV fleet.
Our priority needs to be to protect the REAL warriors, not satisfy the Social Justice kind.
