Certification Day

You can’t say it’s been a long time coming, because today’s activity has only been on Vice President Harris’s calendar for a few months. Or at least in this context.

Do you use colors and icons on your calendar to classify events? Maybe different colors for different family members or to distinguish business from personal? And maybe some of those emojis or icons for a doctor’s appointment or a birthday party?

It would have been interesting to watch those colors and icons change on VP Harris’s calendar as the conditions changed. I bet today, it is under a black banner with a sinister icon like an axe or something. Regardless, you know she isn’t happy. I won’t go so far as to say she has been drinking since she woke up, but I wouldn’t say it’s out of the realm of the possible either.

Today is the day Vice President Harris has to certify the election she lost to President Trump.

Four years ago, Vice President Pence had to certify the election he lost as the VP candidate. Frankly, I bet he breathed a sigh of relief. He was tired of working with President Trump and his level of loyalty had peaked. But today isn’t the same.

Four years from now, Vice President Vance may be sitting in the same position. He is the presumptive candidate to follow behind President Trump after this second term. If he loses that election bid, he will be the Vice President certifying the election he just lost. But that is speculation and today isn’t that day.

Vice President Harris, had she won, would be in the same position as a few other Vice Presidents who certified an election they had won. The last one was President H. W. Bush as the successor to President Reagan. But she didn’t. In four years, it could be Vice President Vance certifying the election he just won, like President Bush. But that is speculation and today isn’t that day.

Although the task falls on Vice President Harris and she will be the focus, the angst of the day should be shared across the entirety of the Democrat Party. From President Biden to Representative Pelosi to Senator Schumer to Governors Walz, Newsom, and Hochul to “The Squad” to Press Secretary Jean-Pierre and her “best in the business team” and even reaching to the campaign managers and staffs … they all need to share the pain of today.

They lost it. They ALL lost it. Together. As a really, really misguided and horrible team, they all lost it.

My guess, though, is they will let Vice President Harris bear the brunt of the failure, alone and on camera for the nation to see. There have been a few rumblings, to include Chuck Schumer, on why the Democrats lost every facet of this election cycle. He has quietly admitted they misjudged the American Public and they have become disassociated from their constituents.

The louder voices are coming from people like Bill Maher and longtime Democrat Strategist James Carville. They have both been loudly and publicly yelling about how horrible this election cycle was managed and what their party has turned into. Neither of them was responsible for the loss, but they are standing up and owning it for their party.

Unlike the rest of the leadership who will likely leave Vice President Harris to take the full blame for 2024. They will leave her to it. You won’t see Pelosi or Walz own this. Or “The Squad”. They will lay some of it on a feeble old man and the majority of it on a candidate that NEVER should have been on the ticket in the first place. Kamala will take the blame for this. She will take the hit.

And she will do it publicly. And on camera. For the nation to see. And the Republicans to grin at.

By the way, the Republican Party didn’t win this election cycle. President Trump did. The American people did. The Grand Old Party needs to pay VERY close attention to today. Because if they don’t, four years from now Vice President Vance will be standing in front of Congress certifying an election he just lost.

Just like Vice President Harris is doing. Today.

On Certification Day.
