Pay Attention

Tomorrow is the mid-term election.

Pay attention to what the candidates are saying. What they say today, they will lie about tomorrow. What they promise today, they will take back tomorrow. What they want today is to win tomorrow.

Candidates for office will say what they know will get them elected. They pander. They will hedge. They will outright lie. Their goal is to get into office. Once they get into office, their goal is to stay in office. If you support a new candidate who has never been in office before, they are making promises having no experience in what it takes to fulfill those promises. If you are supporting an incumbent, they know exactly what it takes to get things done and make outlandish promises anyway.

It is the responsibility of the voter who put that individual in office to hold them accountable for what they promised. That’s why you voted for them. That’s what they owe you for your vote. There are entirely too many politicians that stay in office due to pure voter apathy and solely because they represent “your party” when all they have accomplished is to run their mouth on social media and attack other politicians.

This especially matters if you are a single issue voter. If you are basing your entire vote on a candidate’s stance on your most important issue, they really need to deliver. I don’t care if it is abortion, guns, crime, the economy, or the environment. If you vote for them based on a single issue and they fail to deliver on their promises, you wasted your vote.

Why else should you be paying attention? Because terms are years long. Candidates are hoping you forget the promises they made. They are counting on you to continue supporting them and defending them solely because you gave them your vote. No one likes to admit a mistake and that’s what they are banking on. They know the “other side” is going to come after them, they are just hoping you are willing to defend them when they have done nothing they promised you they would do.

Let’s be honest, certain media outlets are biased toward one party or the other. There is almost no true journalism left in main stream media when it comes to politics and politicians. They will, with an abundance of expertise, dilute history to ensure it paints the picture they want. Just like the politicians, they are hoping you forget what was actually promised. It is up to you, the voter, to remember why you committed your vote to get your candidate into office because the media damn sure isn’t going to do it.

The American public does a bang up job complaining about the candidate that won…if it isn’t the candidate they voted for. We bitch and complain incessantly about what the other candidate and the other party is doing when we didn’t vote for them. All I am asking is to do the same for your OWN candidate. Hold them accountable for the vote you entrusted to them.

But above all…Pay Attention.
