Your Cause

Your cause is your cause. Your charity is your charity. Your mission is your mission.

I have my own. My own causes, charities, and missions.

Yours cost money. So do mine.

There is plenty of government waste to go around, no matter which side of the aisle you are on. Some would say we spend too much on one thing and not enough on the other. Rest assured, though, there is plenty of pork and waste built into the US budget annually…not to mention additional funds allocated AFTER the budget has been approved.

Where does all that allocated money, including the wasted money, come from? Our tax dollars. I have to be honest, I already pay enough money to the Federal Government, the State Government, and the Local Government where I live. I’m not fond of paying any more than I already do, especially knowing how much of it is PURE waste.

The US is currently $30 Trillion in debt. That’s trillion with twelve zeroes in front of the decimal point. Contrary to what many would have you believe, the US is NOT a wealthy nation. We are in debt up to our eyeballs. There are two ways for our government to rectify that; increase taxes and reduce spending. That’s it. Like I said, I’m not much in the mood to spend any more on taxes. No thanks.

We all have an obligation to hold our government officials accountable for how they spend OUR money. Again, no matter where you are on the political spectrum, there is some government spending we all believe is a waste. I think that is an agreeable point. So, let’s agree to do that; hold them accountable.

But let’s also agree not to come up with any new ways to spend money. Reminder, spending money equals either an increase in taxes or reducing spending. If you come up with something new to spend government money on, they are going to raise taxes until we tell them all to knock it off.

Until then, if you have some great cause, great charity, or great mission that you think needs to be funded, spend your own money, not mine. You should be living like a Spartan with an empty bank account, a used car, a tiny house, and eating Ramen noodles before you find a way to spend MY money. Don’t even ask. You should be expending every dime you have at your disposal before you tell the government they need to take money from me for your mission, your charity, or your cause.

You want to ask me personally to support? Fine. You want to ask me personally for a donation? Great. You want to ask me personally to help you? That’s awesome. In all of those cases, I have the ability to decide if I agree or not in how my money is spent. I may happily contribute what I have in time, money, or resources. But, in the end, it’s my decision. When you start yelling to raise my taxes to fund your cause…that’s when we are going to have issues. And we are definitely going to have issues if you are living in a nicer house than me, driving a nicer car than me, and have more disposable income than me.

Because after all, it’s not my cause…it’s YOUR CAUSE.
